Sea turtles, prehistoric animals, are the oldest living reptiles, inhabiting the ocean for around 225 million years.Out of more than 300 turtle species, only 7 live at sea. These ancient animals have braved the passing of time to survive to the present day.Sea turtles travel thousands of kilometres in their lifetime. Yet, their navigation method is still largely unknown, except for their once-in-a-lifetime romantic encounters. Their destination stays the same when they give birth: their natal beach.Today, sea turtles are endangered. To protect sea turtles from poaching, José Gómez Peñate has developed a protection programme which involves communities in Côte d'Ivoire. Thanks to the programme, poaching at Dogbalé-Mani-Kablaké, the country's most important nesting beach, has been virtually eliminated.Discover this #UNESCOGreenCitizens project and many others to get inspired or involved directly: https://lnkd.in/e4Rt3rb5

South Africa is home to five species of turtle - some of which you can see at the Two Oceans Aquarium! Our Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation Turtle Conservation Centre often uses the amazing space of the I&J Ocean Exhibit as a crucial phase in turtle rehabilitation! Here, the turtles undergoing rehabilitation have time to get stronger and be observed by our Turtle Team before they are released into the ocean. Here's your ultimate guide on how to tell these turtles apart: https://lnkd.in/dU3VDvXi

The process and project of a womb-like hemispherical #geometry that encapsulates, nourishes and energises a living microcosm, no less than the planetary #ecosystems have provided just such a stage and nurturing (as tranduction of solar) energy to, for and as all of us.The philosophy runs deep with this one as we, too, find ourselves inhabiting just such a manufactured cradle but it seems that the depth and breadth of our compounding #errors are a function of the suspended #disbelief with which we view it. That is - we do not (yet) fully understand just how contingent and transient is the matrix of technology and logic we have asserted upon our world. In any panopticon, even the surveilling guards are prisoners and we, too, are both prisoner and regulatory #mechanism of our own self-encapsulating entrapment.

#SaveTheTurtles🐢 Part of our global efforts towards a better, greener Earth. We proudly celebrate our 10th year of helping to protect endangered sea turtles by supporting the Indigo Turtles Project and the Ecological Research Society (EKAD).We’ve designed exclusive t-shirts to raise awareness and support these efforts. The sale of 1 t-shirt saves 5 baby sea turtles, making a significant contribution to the natural habitat of the Mediterranean Sea. Each year, only 40% of hatchling sea turtles make it to the sea. Only 1 in 1000 survives. The number of nests, which was 500 when the activities started in the region, has reached 1652. EKADhas helped over 1 million turtles make it to the sea in over two decades. Visit our website to help us protect this vulnerable species and save the turtles: https://bit.ly/3Dyb5Sg

ML5-C: The Mediterranean Sea….includes several unique and endangered habitats, such as…. coralligenous assemblages. Corallium rubrum (red coral) is a slow growing and long living species endemic to the Mediterranean and adjacent African Atlantic waters. It has been harvested since ancient times because of the use of its calcified axis for jewellery by dragging the bottom with a wooden cross provided with rope mops and by diving. Fishing of the endangered red coral is regulated in few countries. Increased legal protection and conservation measures are urgently needed and Mediterranean countries should update assessment of such endangered species in order to adapt legislation to their changing vulnerability.Stay connected for further information.#marineconservation #Mediterranean #MediterraneanSea #awarenessraising #SDG14 #oceanliteracy #MediterraneanSeaLIteracy #EUErasmusPlus #bikinidiving #cleanboating #elpeixalplat #emsea #ecomarineMalta #HellenicCentreforMarineResearch #UniversityofZadar
